" You've Been Framed"

Somebody must have cared
To secure you
On the wall like that.
Now you are just
A faded nobody
Unrecognisable.
Just like the faded
Plastic blooms
99p shop style
Adorning your Poundland frame.
Gone are the daily
Fresh cut bunches
Scented candles
In perfectly rinsed jam jars
Swept away by real life Triggers
As you were when
Gangsters beat you
And pulled their trigger
To put a bullet through your head
Leaving you lying there dead
In an insignificant
Bermondsey back street.
Almost as insignificant
As your unsolved murder.
They said they would never forget
As sworn in mourning when upset.
What was once a shrine
Becomes street junk

As you turned
From a dearly loved son
To just another dead punk.
Dulwich Poet 6th January 2014

( When I choose to go home from work via Bermondsey tube station I walk past the fading picture, hung up on a back street wall, of Daniel Herbert, 29. Murdered in Bermondsey in August 2009. Now, over four years later the ‘shrine’ looks forlorn, as faded as his memory. Two people were acquitted of his murder, but found guilty of GBH)
